SeaChem
SeaChem is an international and interdisciplinary research initiative aimed at training the next generation of researchers in offshore seaweed aquaculture. The project focuses on developing innovative technologies for the sustainable production of high-value chemicals derived from seaweed by integrating aquaculture structures with offshore wind farms.

How the programme is structured
Offshore seaweed aquaculture structures · high-value chemical extraction · geo-mapping.
Offshore seaweed cultivation technology, sustainable bio-chemical extraction, and advanced environmental sustainability assessments.
- Consortium of 12 partners & universities
- Predictim Globe (Research partner)
Offshore seaweed cultivation
Developing technologies for offshore seaweed cultivation, focusing on integrating stainless-steel aquaculture structures with pre-existing offshore infrastructure (e.g. wind farms).
Bio-chemical extraction
Applying cutting-edge techniques like microwave and ultrasound-assisted chemical extraction to maximize the yield of high-value compounds from seaweed, replacing fossil-based chemicals.
Geo-mapping & sustainability
Employing geo-mapping to identify optimal cultivation locations and conducting advanced sustainability assessments of the cultivation and biorefinery systems.
